At the age of 22 Taavet Hinrikus was Skype’s first employee. As the company’s Director of Strategy, Taavet drove its transformation from a small scale telecoms disruptor, to a large multinational with 300 million active users, responsible for 40 per cent of long distance calls worldwide. Now Co-Founder and CEO of the international money transfer platform, TransferWise, Taavet has shifted his focus to the established financial industry, sparking disruption to help money flow more freely than ever. ‘Money without borders’ is the company’s motto, and with their customers now making $1 billion of international transfers per month without the help of banks, it looks as though he has successfully transformed another industry.
